Team selection

MyFC is trying to establish a way to let a large number of people vote on team formation and players.

There are two major challenges to developing the MyFC team selector:

1. Technical (i.e: the graphical interface and mathematical system for counting votes)
2. Electoral (i.e: the democratic process)

Proposals for team selection range from: Traditional where MyFC members choose the manager and the manager chooses the team to Purist every member votes for a formation and then, once the formation is chosen votes for players to fill each of the positions as well as substitutes.

  • simple
  • low risk
  • tried and tested
• Disadvantages:
  • goes against the ethos and philosophy of MyFC
  • not very interactive
  • likely to lose members if employed

  • wisdom of crowds
• Disadvantages:
  • complex to implement
  • might reveal our formation and/or team long before the match
  • one player might potentially be selected for two or more positions

These need to be expanded upon with advantages and disadvantages notated:

• Hybrid members and manager selection process proposed by Alexis
• List selection system - head coach selects players for each of the four most popular formations (as voted by members) - members choose preferred team "list"
• Multiple team selection - members can make a team for as many formations as they wish. Most popular formation is selected avoids "wasted" votes
• Guest Manager system - each match a member or small group of members is elected to choose the team - taking advice from the head coach and anyone else they wish to consult
• Big Island method - The members selection is referred to the head coach for comment mid-week - his suggested adjustments are voted on at the end of the week. Proposed by Big Islander
• Quick 1-2 - Coach choses the formation and proposed team selection. Members have to use the coach's formation. Members then vote for players according to the positions proposed by the coach. - proposed by Kerf
• Coach ratification system - Coach picks team - members vote yes/no for each player in the position allocated to him by the coach - proposed by Jimbo66
• Primary 2.0 - A selection system based on the system you used to pick teams at primary school. Once the formation has been chosen each position is selected in sequence, members list their preferences for each position. Proposed by --Payo 08:35, 17 March 2008 (PDT)
